I had difficulty writing about the characters, because I wasn't sure what to say. As I deleted and rewrote different sentences focusing on different meanings, I was able to truly see more than one side of the situation. Instead of the evil Kate that was depicted in my head from the reading of the novel, I was able to see Kate as a very vulnerable character who tries very hard to cover up this vulnerability and who refuses to be submissive to the world. I felt more sympathy from Kate, a feeling I honestly did not get when reading the book. Thinking more deeply about the character and their intentions for actions really placed me in her shoes as I got to understand what her feelings were as she committed each action. The one for Hamilton's was a bit more easier as they were generally understood as the hospitable character foil for the Trask's.
